Ontario Place sewer plan an environmental disaster

RE: ERO posting 019-9534 Ontario Place – Infrastructure Ontario- Environmental Compliance Approval (sewage)

Dear Minister,

We are writing in opposition to the Ontario Government’s combined sewer overflow work (CSO) at 955 Lakeshore Boulevard West (Ontario Place) that has the clear potential to spread polluted water, including sewer run off, into the West Channel around West Island at Ontario Place and the planned ‘new beach’. Combined overflow outlets run counter to herculean efforts to clean up Lake Ontario: the discharge will pollute a heavily used part of the waterfront.

The proposal involves taxpayer dollars being used to pollute Lake Ontario in support of a foreign-owned company with a sweetheart deal to occupy one of the prime spots on public land on the Toronto waterfront. This under-the-radar approach is unfortunately typical of the secrecy surrounding the Ontario Place fiasco and must be stopped.

We strongly oppose this activity and assure you that we will continue to urge our fellow residents to oppose this also.

Yours truly,

Geoff Kettel
