In 2012 there are three current concerns about governance:

One of Mayor Ford’s election promises was to cut the number of wards in half to save money and align with provincial/federal electoral districts. This may be viewed as step backwards if done without concurrent and significant changes in how the city is managed.

Second, recent conflicts between the mayor and council over transit and the port lands issues highlight some advantages and disadvantages of the Strong Mayor concept.

Lastly, time and ongoing density changes have resulted in some wards falling outside upper and lower relative boundaries for proportional representation.
